What I was suggesting was that you try running something like: unset TERMCAP TERM='linux' export TERM /sbin/debian-installer /bin/network-console-menu to see if that allows it to run without crashing. It might well look wrong, with broken line-drawing etc. but if it runs without crashing then at least that points us at the cause of the problem.
