Hi,

I downloaded the cd-images for woody and wanted to install it on my
machine today. But there was a severe obstacle which prevented me from
ending (or actually starting) the installation: After telling the
installer that I have no network devices, he told me I better had one,
since I wanted to install a diskless machine.

The trouble is that my harddisc is connected to a Promise ATA
100 controller (PDC 20265), which isn't supported by 2.2.x-kernels.

Since I think I'm not the only one experiencing such problems and that
we have to support newer hardware if we want to get new users, I
think kernel 2.4 should be used on the boot-floppies.

With kind regards

Wolfi
