The bios is EFI capable, but I was booting in legacy mode. This old system was built by a very able tech, and it does run two P4s on the motherboard. It's an old server. In any case, since the EFI capabilities of the bios were not in use, I think you've found the problem. Also, "efi" was part of the installer file name I was using, and didn't know if that could have anything to do with my problem.
