As a related issue (if not the same issue), it'd be great to be able to debootstrap squeeze + squeeze-lts without having to do the sources.list update after the fact followed by an "apt-get dist-upgrade" (which is essentially what debootstrap just did). One way I think this could be accomplished somewhat reasonably is by being able to provide a "sources.list" file directly to debootstrap, but I'll admit freely that I'm not very familiar with the internals of exactly how debootstrap processes packages, so this might be really complicated.
