From what i've googled the console outside X should be working so you can 
change to a console (e.g. ctrl+1).

I got a tip that the graphic card needs non-free firmware to work properly. The 
non-free firmware cannot be distributed in official debian images but it's 
available on the package firmware-linux-nonfree [1]. The procedure to install 
non-free firmware in the installer it's described on the installation guide [2].
But if you have access to console and network and if you are willing to install 
non-free software you just have to enable the non-free section in 
/etc/apt/sources.list and install the firmware-linux-nonfree package.
