Package: debootstrap Version: 1.0.10lenny1 Severity: important -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1
Today, while trying to build a clean Lenny chroot using pbuilder, I noticed that debootstrap complained of failure to configure packages, mentioning that it will try 5 times before completely giving up. Instead, what happens is that the host becomes unresponsive and has to be force- rebooted (ACPI reset button). So, this bug is two-fold: 1) no longer able to build a Lenny chroot (I tried with and without adding the security updates repository, in /etc/pbuilderrc - fails in both cases). 2) failure to configure the base system and trying 5 more times pulls an insane amount of system resources that brings the build host to its knees. While I realize that Squeeze is getting closer to a release, it's still necessary to be able to create Lenny chroots e.g. to build backports and security releases, so I can only hope that the Debian-boot team can fix this. Cheers!
