Certainly not intended. It should not make any difference whether you use a suite or a codename as default when preseeding. I cannot reproduce the error with my current version, which has a few (minor) changes against the version I posted. Can you reproduce? If you can, please post exactly what choices you made up to the failure and the contents of /var/log/syslog.
