It fails because of "too much boot sectors" (as I try to remember).
Recently the support for dmraid in partman has been improved significantly
and some issues with grub installations have been fixed.

Hello.
I've just updated my Debian server today, and I've seen this update.
Actually, I've already installed Debian on a RAID with a most recent dvd.
The only problem I still have is the need to edit the default entry into
the grub menu.
(it shows nvidia******** and it must be replaced with hd0,1)
Editing the menu.lst file resolve that problem, untill a new
"linux-headers" is installed.
I'll send a new note if this trouble with GRUB continues with this
dmraid update.
