Incidentally, I've been having endless trouble with my SheevaPlug with dodgy USB leads: sporadic USB errors on an external hard drive (which would then cause the root file system to vanish. Very nasty), USB console not showing up, the SheevaPlug spontaneously rebooting when attaching or detaching the USB console... in all cases, replacing the lead with a different one fixed the problem. I hear a rumour that Marvell's USB chipset isn't terribly robust, and it may well be more sensitive to sub-par USB leads than other hardware.
