Let's not make this a self-fulfilling prophecy. I sincerely hope that i386 in the current supported variant can stay with us for some releases. I'd appreciate it if you don't phase your expectation about i386 as facts, because I hope your expectation is going to be wrong.

I agree with you that, support for 32 bit Intel/AMD hardware in Debian is mostly dead. The Debian i386 architecture is there to run software that can't be recompiled (that's why we didn't do 64 bit time_t there).
