When I tested earlier, the infobar was not read aloud which I believe
would have made it much worse. I don't know why that happened then but
not in my testing today.

It's not enabled by default. It's not mentioned in the user help. I
happened to recognize that "caret mode" in the keyboard shortcuts
dialog sounded useful. Atril at least has View>Caret Navigation in the
traditional File/Edit/View menu that most GNOME apps no longer
provide.

Evince will definitely still exist in Debian 13; we are just proposing
it won't be in the GNOME default install. Firefox ESR is installed by
default there too.
