hi, i upgraded my quadra 630.
i tried etch-m68k but i was stuck with some leftover sarge packages and i thought there were missing dependencies so i put unstable in my sources.list above etch-m68k. now my login banner says "lenny/sid". my main problem is that it is necessary for me to use aptitude a little bit still to clean up some dependencies. and aptitude in etch uses something like 48MB of RAM. it became slower than the slow it was before swapping with 36MB of ram. so i decided in order to track unstable i really had to get 64MB. but then I have another machine the quadra 605 so i got a 128MB for the 630 and a 64 for the 605. supposedly these large cards work only in these two machines (or similar). if anyone on the list wants after I test these out contact me about obtaining my 32MB cards. I also have a couple of 16MB single sideds that may work in machines with two slots. _________ i have xemacs, w3m, and ecl (lisp) going. it is buggy but not much worse than my ppc machines of etch (which are release official versions). i have tried X and i got some initial screen but it is only about 2/3 of the way down and then it is overdrawn or something (whitish color with stripes) and hangs the console. I had done several install of both xfree and xorg on powerpc so I think I know if it is not apparently working. could it be problem with the framebuffer driver. the xorg fbdev uses another driver called something like fbhw or hwfvdev something like that. anyone wants more details or i could take digital camera shot of screen. _____________ I am really sorry about flaming franz and embarrass myself too. I have to admit i am not so happy with debian as i feel it could be. It is not as much to do with 68k as with general organization (of package system ....) and quality control (is Etch worth keeping or should I just go on with lenny sid on all my machines ??). I want to write my own software and not to spend all my time and energy on administrative tasks. But 68k is helping more still for me to learn oftentimes much more than ppc. Thanks to all porters for recent hard works. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
