Note that nearly all of this information is available with
translations at <http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/manual/>.

vmlinuz-2.2.25-mac is included in all of the current distributions, so
isn't offtopic here. I did change the subject to make it clear we're not
talking about amiga any more.

Current distributions and codenames are as follows.

unstable = sid
testing = etch
stable = sarge
oldstable = woody

Woody uses an boot-floppies--based installer. Sarge and later use a
debian-installer--based installation. Let's ignore woody and keep the
discussion about d-i.

Images from [0] are the current stable release, sarge. Images from [1]
are betas for etch. Images from [2] are daily test images.

If you're using a 2.2.x kernel, you need to set ramdisk_size=20000
(if you're installating sarge, you can get away with 13000). If
you're using a 2.6.x kernel, you need to set ramdisk_size=8192 (I
think).

If you're using a 2.2.x kernel, you should select an initrd22.gz image.
If you're using a 2.6.x kernel, you should select an initrd.gz image.

So for a typical mac, using the daily images, your kernel command line
should be: root=/dev/ram ramdisk_size=20000.

I welcome testing with both kernels, especially of the daily images.
Right now, 2.6.x doesn't work with most macs.

A description of the image types is at
<http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/manual/en.m68k/ch05s01.html#m68k-boot-hd>.

<http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/> will lead you to the
right iso for you, if that's what you need. If network connectivity and
bandwidth are not an issue for you, go with the native-hd/initrd22.gz
image and don't bother with iso's.

Hope that clears some things up,

Stephen
