Frederic Guillot and his contributors have solved this by implementing a
Kanban system that knows about start and due dates and can switch to a
Gantt view.

@madduck: It knows about relationships between tasks but these are
mostly declaratory. So they still need a human to manage them / escalate
violations.
@indiebio: Overdue dates are indicated in bold red so deadline
management works quite well with KanBoard.
