There are people who feel the same way in South Africa. There are a few big taxi companies that you can carry the phone number for. However, taxis are cheap enough that missing a shuttle wouldn't be the end of the world. I see R50-80 (€4-6) estimated for an Uber between UCT and Long St in town (the central night-life street).
