Good question. I think the reason is two-fold: 1. Some parents are rather restrictive wrt talking about their off-spring on the Tubes; 2. debconf-kids is going to mainly about exchange and self-organisation of child care at DebConf. While I think that we should still strive to provide a basic framework for child care, volunteers will be required to make it really useful for parents. And those volunteers are probably going to be parents, who might have an easier time discussing organisation if they know that Google won't know about it. Does this make sense?
