on the other hand - honestly - consider dovecot

* it can work as IMAP/POP3 proxy in front of dbmail and does here the last 5 
years
* it can be used from postfix with two config lines for smtpd-auth
* the benefit is you have one uniqe config for auth-mechs and if whatever client
  is happy with your IMAP/POP3 config it is also with SMTP auth, otherwise there
  is a difference which can make troubles with random clients and is wasting 
admin time
* another benefit possible is that it improves the stability of the 
network-layer of the mail system
