That's the part I don't know, but I've heard that connecting to a socket differs from making a TCP connection to localhost. I'd look it up in glibc man pages, but between work and the coming of a major hurricane[1], I won't have time today[2]. :) I'm far enough inland that it's no danger, but floods are forecast, so I'm going to run out and buy some things.
