Squirrelmail with dbmail is good but if you got thousands of email it
will be
slow because squirrelmail doesn't deal directly with mysql.
if squirrelmail can talk directly to mysql (dbmail) that will
be the great.

I've been using wedbmail in production with few problems. The install
docs need some work, but the code is okay. Grab it via cvs, the release
version seems old..
