It sounds like what we need to happen here is to fine-tune a DBMail configuration on a private LAN (somewhat easy to do, if you have spare hardware) and pound it with all sorts of traffic, tuning as necessary.

Apart from real-world use, this is the only way we're going to break beyond the hypothetical scenarios to reality. Has anyone the time/hardware to do this? I don't have the hardware, but have some extra time ;-) (typical).

What type of backend configurations do some of the members here use or recommend for enterprise-scale I/O?
