I looked at the fact sheet for powermail, it looks interesting, but it is missing what I think is the heart of dbmail; the IMAP server. I bet it would only take a few tweaks to get dbmail-imapd to read messages from files. I've got this sneaking suspicion it will be faster that way. Of course, in the long term, I also want to add lots of headers into the messages table, or a separate headers table, for indexing. Eventually I see a client that bypasses IMAP and accesses the database directly, maybe an XUL or web app. An MMMUA (Massively Multiplayer Mail User Agent) if you will. :-)
