When one wishes to assist and participate in the development of a software
entity, one must be prepared to utilize the avenues the developers use
rather than attempt to change the developers methods in favor of their
own. github is definitively used to keep track of issues and requests for
darktable development, the dev's mailing list is somewhat of an
"afterthought".

if you want your issue and requests to be seen by the dev's, github is the
avenue. although, posting those to the mailing list maybe or maybe not
one of the dev's will see and follow or maybe someone else will pick up
and post it to github. but this is a rather haphazard approach.

you should use github, but facebook or bottompaper is not likely to
provide much assistance.
