Even though this is an optional dependency, I looked into this a little while
back and came up with this:

AVIF is a (new?) image file format. Have a look here:
https://aomediacodec.github.io/av1-avif/

If you do want to give installing/building a go, have a look here:
https://github.com/AOMediaCodec/libavif

I didn't bother with it any further, having no need for this specific image
format atm.
