yes I just dropped the tonecurve information because this gave me the
best results in some test cases. Investigating the source code of
darktable-chart I realized that dropping the tonecurve information from
the darktabe style is inconsistent with the way how data for the color
lookup module is calculated.
There is certainly some room for improvement for the way how I convert
Hald CLUTs (http://www.quelsolaar.com/technology/clut.html) to darktable
styles.
I updated my film emulation styles to contain both a tonecurve and a
color lookup table. I also put the python script and all auxiliary
files that have been employed to generate the film emulation styles on
github. For those who want to play further with color looks there is
also a script to convert a cube file to a darktable style. All these
Python scripts work with the vanilla darktable-chart now. See
https://github.com/rabauke/darktable-styles/
Note that a darktable color lookup style contains not more than 49 color
patches (interpolation points), whereas a hald clut or a cube file may
contain 100s of colors. Thus a darktable color lookup table plus a tone
curve can give only a approximation to the effect of a hald clut file or
a cube color style.
