hi!
looks nice! i like how it scales to fit the window. a few thoughts:
- not sure we can get away completely without thumbnail support from
our side, i'd hate to leave the rescaling to the browser after
downloading 12MB of jpg..
Just a little question: Since the browser window will be any size,
wouldn't that mean that the browser will rescale anyway, independent of
the image size? Or do you mean that the browser applies its bad scaling
to a well-scaled image close to its final size, with a better result
than direct bad scaling from the maximum size? Something along scaling
in multiple steps? If it is the latter, do you have some references that
explain the benefits etc.?
Thanks & best regards
Chris
- along the same lines, will there be an overview somewhere? like a
contact sheet thing where you see more than one image at the same
time?
- the scrolling is a neat effect. i think i would like it even better
with a bit of a grace period before the next bar scrolls into the
image (i.e. make it snap to full screen image only more easily,
without overlaid decorations)
- moving to the next image takes me quite some time with the mouse
wheel on a bigger screen (need to scroll like 4-5 times to finish)
cheers,
jo

Hi all!
It took me faster than i thought.
Here is an example of what i envisioned:
http://sakrecoer.com/DT-export/
The technique is working in firefox, chrome, ubuntu-phone, android (the
effect is lost but it displays alright), but i have yet to test it on
iOS, safari and explorer, anyone here that could test that?
You will find the source file here:
https://github.com/Sakrecoer/DT-webgallery
Its a simple html file with in-line CSS, so no linked material needed
except of course the rendered photos. I prepared the index.html in the
root of that repo with made-up variables that you can simply replace by
the ones you use. Some of them are purely hypothetical, such as
${ALLtags} and probably others. To understand them i wrote a list in the
readme.md in the github page.
The index file contains the full image, this system has no thumbnails.
But i figure that even lightbox will give us long loading time for
people with low-bandwidth. Sure, the index loads quicker like it is now
with thumbnails linking to the picture displayed in lightbox, but to
watch the full pictures would require the same amount of data to be
downloaded.
I figure this model would be best if the output pictures have 1024px
height at maximum. But i was wondering if the current size-setting box
in the export-prompt could be used to create a zip file of all pictures
that could be added in a "Download All" Link? And then have it render
what is currently the thumbnails at 1024 height? That would require
some coding from you guys, so i guess, it will only happen if you feel it...
Anyways, i hope you like it. If not, its all good. It was fun to do and
i can use it for myself in some jekyll theme. I hope however that you
will at some point revisit the "export to web gallery" function. It's a
really great feature.
Have a great week-end,
Yours,
Set
