Yes, that is the idea; Responsive, lightweight and sober in plain
html5/CSS3. Although i'm convinced it is possible to do something
elegant and functional by putting all focus on the photographies, i
don't think i will be able to produce something as fancy as the systems
Joel Brunetti linked to above without using linked javascript resources.

They are using jquery.js. I did not check to which extent, but at least it is loaded from google but it can be replaced by a local copy and it does not work without, which I both checked.
