If you close an rxvt window by clicking on the Close [X] then the bash shell running under rxvt never gets notified and runs in the background. When you attempt to shutdown Windows you'll see a dialog box asking to kill that process. This is a known bug in rxvt (PTC).
Well, many people have reported that "bug", but always got the response, that it's more a "not implemented feature" than a "bug".
I don't think that it will get fixed soon.
