You weren't naive in assuming this. There are a lot of scripts out there which begin with /bin/sh. They are obviously supposed to work within the limits of bourne shell (v1?) syntax. ash hasn't been stripped down so much that it doesn't understand cygwin paths. -- Please use the resources at cygwin.com rather than sending personal email.
