To me, this implies that you are not running the /bin/sh that you think you're running. Do you have more than one copy of sh.exe on your system? Have you tried: c:\> c:\>d:\cygwin\bin\sh $ /bin/cat /etc/passwd ? -- Please use the resources at cygwin.com rather than sending personal email.
