When you download
https://cygwin.mirror.constant.com/x86_64/release/vim/vim-common/vim-common-9.0.2155-2.tar.xz
with a browser does it show you an error or a false success after 3MB? Does
the browser lets your retry and finish the download? If the browser shows you
an error it means the Cygwin setup program lacks some error check.
If the download can be resumed perhaps a locally running Sonatype Nexus or
JFrog Artifactory could help by transparently or semi-trasparently resuming the
upstream download.

Subject: R: "setup-x86_64.exe" blocked by Proxy/Firewall to 3MB packages

Hello.

Thanks for replying 😊

I really don't how the Company set up the Proxy System... i think it's the
Company AV (i see the Antivirus CA not the real CA!!!), inside Proxy, which
truncates the downloads ☹ not sure about it! But since some weeks they decide
to place this limit ☹

I'm using "https://cygwin.mirror.constant.com
<https://cygwin.mirror.constant.com>", but also tried other mirrors, none of
them can make me get, in this example, since i was reinstalling full VIM
package,
"https://cygwin.mirror.constant.com/x86_64/release/vim/vim-common/vim-common-9.0.2155-2.tar.xz

 (6MB) ☹

Any download is truncated at 3MB ☹☹☹

I don't think you, developers, can make something like small packages download
system (1MB size, in something like concatenated archives) or some trick in
setup.exe to make the download reach the full package size, something like some
downloaders which divide files in more/many chunks to speed the download...

So... thanks for reply!!!

I'll think a method to make me take packages i'll need 🤷‍♀️

PS. Cygwin is a great project 👏👏 i use it since many many years, since 32bit
versions 😊

Hi Mark

Is this a kind of a spying firewall that watches HTTPS traffic? If not, then
maybe you can switch to one of the HTTPS repositories. What's your current repo
URL? When you open an HTTPS site in your web browser do you see a legit CA in
the site security information or do you see the Antivirus CA?

Subject: "setup-x86_64.exe" blocked by Proxy/Firewall to 3MB packages

Hello.

We have a Proxy/AV/Firewall which blocks internet downloads to max 3MB size,
then they truncate the file.

So, for example, downloading VIM-COMMON package, which sizes about 6MB, the xz
is truncated to 3MB and the installation fails, obviously.

Is there, actually, a method to bypass this issue?

Will there be some tricks, in next package distribuition, to bypass this
issue/limitation?

I know it's a difficult things!!!

The only way is to download the package(s) from another client/server and copy
files in the Cygwin installation path.

Thanks.
