Greetings, Cygwinners.
Recently, cron has been giving me trouble on several machines. My user 'eagle' does not have the correct permissions to rename the tab file (or modify anything in /var/cron). I looked at the nt permissions of the /var/cron/tab direct and it is only modifiable by the user SYSTEM, while on a machine with a well working cron, that directory is modifiable by the Administrator's group ( of which, the user 'eagle' is a member). I just did an install from cygwin.com and I experienced this problem. The other note is that there is a user 'S-1-0-0' which the OS doesn't seem to recognize, since it puts a red question mark on the icon. I would appreciate any helpful suggestions. Here's the error when using crontab: crontab: error renaming tabs/tmp.000884 to tabs/eagle rename: Permission denied Here the cygcheck info from the recent cygwin.com install: Cygwin Package Information Last downloaded files to: C:\Documents and Settings\eagle\Desktop Last downloaded files from: http://mirrors.rcn.net/pub/sourceware/cygwin Package Version ash 20011018-1 bash 2.05a-2 cron 3.0.1-5 cygrunsrv 0.94-2 cygwin 1.3.9-1 diff 0.0 fileutils 4.1-1 findutils 4.1 gawk 3.0.4-1 gdbm 1.8.0-3 grep 2.4.2-1 gzip 1.3.2-1 libintl 0.10.38-3 libintl1 0.10.40-1 libncurses5 5.2-1 libncurses6 5.2-8 libreadline4 4.1-2 libreadline5 4.2a-1 login 1.4-3 nano 1.0.6-1 ncurses 5.2-8 readline 4.2a-1 sed 3.02-1 sh-utils 2.0-2 tar 1.13.19-1 termcap 20010825-1 terminfo 5.2-1 textutils 2.0.16-1 which 1.5-1 zlib 1.1.3-7 Cygwin Win95/NT Configuration Diagnostics Current System Time: Thu Jan 31 13:20:23 2002 Windows 2000 Professional Ver 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 2 Path: C:\eagle\usr\local\bin C:\eagle\bin C:\eagle\bin c:\WINNT\system32 c:\WINNT c:\WINNT\System32\Wbem SysDir: C:\WINNT\System32 WinDir: C:\WINNT HOME = `C:\eagle\home\eagle' MAKE_MODE = `unix' PWD = `/home/eagle' USER = `eagle' !:: = `::\' ALLUSERSPROFILE = `C:\Documents and Settings\All Users' APPDATA = `C:\Documents and Settings\eagle\Application Data' COMMONPROGRAMFILES = `C:\Program Files\Common Files' COMPUTERNAME = `INNOVATI-HO9VN9' COMSPEC = `C:\WINNT\system32\cmd.exe' EDITOR = `nano' HOMEDRIVE = `C:' HOMEPATH = `\' LOGONSERVER = `\\INNOVATI-HO9VN9' NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS = `1' OLDPWD = `/usr/bin' OS2LIBPATH = `C:\WINNT\system32\os2\dll;' OS = `Windows_NT' PATHEXT = `.COM;.EXE;.BAT;.CMD;.VBS;.VBE;.JS;.JSE;.WSF;.WSH' PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE = `x86' PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER = `x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 10, GenuineIntel' PROCESSOR_LEVEL = `6' PROCESSOR_REVISION = `080a' PROGRAMFILES = `C:\Program Files' PROMPT = `$P$G' PS1 = `\[\033]0;\w\007 \033[32m\]\u@\h \[\033[33m\w\033[0m\] $ ' SHLVL = `1' SYSTEMDRIVE = `C:' SYSTEMROOT = `C:\WINNT' TEMP = `c:\DOCUME~1\eagle\LOCALS~1\Temp' TERM = `cygwin' TMP = `c:\DOCUME~1\eagle\LOCALS~1\Temp' USERDOMAIN = `INNOVATI-HO9VN9' USERNAME = `eagle' USERPROFILE = `C:\Documents and Settings\eagle' WINDIR = `C:\WINNT' _ = `/usr/bin/cygcheck.exe' Use `-r' to scan registry a: fd N/A N/A c: hd NTFS 38154Mb 7% CP CS UN PA FC d: cd N/A N/A e: cd N/A N/A . /cygdrive user binmode,noumount C:/eagle / system binmode C:/eagle/bin /usr/bin system binmode C:/eagle/lib /usr/lib system binmode Found: C:\eagle\bin\bash.exe Found: C:\eagle\bin\cat.exe Not Found: cpp (good!)
