I'd also want to see another pass over the MSYS2 + Git for Windows patches to see which if any of them are applicable to Cygwin proper. I know someone just did the spawn argv[0] patch, which also highlighted the potenital difficulty in tracking down authors of old patches for a new Signed-off-by line in the commit message. I know there are few patches in git-for-windows on top of msys2-runtime, and a few of them seemed like "how could this not be a problem for Cygwin too?" A couple around mbs stuff come to mind.
