One major difference is that the symbol versions are not immediately obvious from outside. A typical user is not going to see that lib.so.7 includes [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] Someone who notices this is probably going to be able to understand the explanation. We will, of course, get the 'I just upgraded to 8.0-RELEASE and I still have libc.so.7' questions in a few years. -- Peter Jeremy
