We need ways to declare our own dimensional and positional relations
between elements, and table is actually preventing rather than allowing
us to establish such relations.
A couple of points...
1: try to change visual order of columns relative to actual source-code
order. Apart from reversing the entire table you'll have a problem.
2; the Gecko family, and maybe others, don't allow absolute positioning
relative to actual (HTML) or declared (CSS) table elements. Pretty
inconvenient, I'd say.
