(please excuse cross posting and semi-commercial contents - I believe this would
be of interest to readers of this list)

Alpha version of release 1.3 of IBM Micro Payments is available. You can read
information, try out the demo, and download the servers from
http://www.ibm.com/software/webservers/commerce/payment/mpay (skip the `mpay` to
see our total payments line). We'll be looking forward to your feedback.

IBM Micro Payments allows selling content and services for small amounts, which
cannot be handled efficiently using credit cards. Its main properties are:
Secure `click and pay` UI - user also know that he'll pay (and how much), yet
   needs only one `click`
Interoperability among many providers of the system such that a buyer with
agreement at one provider can buy from a merchant with agreement with another
   provider.
Support for autmoated, invisible currency conversion.
High security against fraud using efficient digital signatures.
Very thin (under 200KB) and trivial install, yet full functional, client
wallet (we can also support `wallet server` but that has many disadvantages,
so the thin client is preferable).
Open interfaces, support for standards etc. - in particular we are the first
implementation of the W3C Micropayments Markup spec

Our approach is to make the software widely available thru partnerships with
ISPs, telcos, banks, processors - as well as OEM channels.
