Sylvain, You are getting much better than I am on the same hardware, because I'm comparing to a P4 2.4 GHz and only getting 1.7. Assuming the speed ratio is the same going from 2.4 to 3.4, then I'm getting much less than you. I would like to know why! Can you tell me which compiler, OS and compiler flag you are using for this?
