**In-server test-parallelism investigation is closed. DB tuning shipped,
both concurrency mechanisms rejected.**
**Why it matters:** `:core:coreMySQLTest` went from 26m25s to **7m04s
(3.7x)** with zero production-code risk — that's the delivered outcome. Two
further architectural changes were evaluated on top of it and both failed on
correctness, not just speed.
**What shipped:**
- Shared MySQL/PostgreSQL container + full durability/tmpfs tuning (#13553):
**7m04s**, 520/520, test-only build code.
**What was rejected:**
- **Thread-scoped parallelism (ScopedReference):** broke real
concurrency-serialization tests ("waits for uncommitted delete," row-level
serialization) at parallelism=2, and was 5x *slower* (35m54s) than the tuned
baseline it was meant to beat.
- **Classloader-scoped parallelism:** `NoClassDefFoundError` in
Testcontainers' resource-cleanup hook, nondeterministic — sometimes fails the
build outright, sometimes races past result collection and reports green while
cleanup silently didn't happen.
