Hi Jens, and thanks for the enlightening advice. I believe my question was more a Cocoa question, than a "networking guru" thing. It is really about the NSOutputStream/NSInputStream integration with their lower-level layers of MacOS/iOS.
In the past I asked many questions here about NSThread's relations to the underlying pthreads, and found much help here in this discussion group. Sometimes subtle behaviors of Cocoa objects depend on (or stem from) the behavior of lower level system objects. I'm not sure those integration questions are out of order here. However --- I will direct my question to the macnetworkprog list as well. I didn't know it existed at all... Thanks!!!!
