On my 3GMf (20hp) I have to increase the throttle a little in order for the engine to start. It hasn't been a big deal, so I haven't looked into the cause. It didn't do this when I first got the boat (25 years ago). I replaced the fuel line some time ago, and I'm wondering whether I didn't tighten it enough, so that the fuel might be flowing back into the tank when the engine hasn't run for a while. With the fuel line empty, it would take some cranking for the fuel to come back. I'll check the connections the next time I'm at the boat. I'll also check the air filter as recommended in Meredith Anderson's article in Practical Sailor.
