I replaced the mechanical fuel pump on my Atomic 4 a couple of years ago. Very easy rebuild although getting the mounting bolts back in was a bit of a challenge. The old one was working fine but I just did it as a PM project given that the engine was almost fifty years old and thought it was about due. I took the easy way out on the carb-just purchased the Moyer replacement which has worked several years now just fine.

No problem with the installation and it worked well until the block cracked. The Moyer replacement engine came with all the upgrades and some that I didn't expect. Or installed one of their electric fuel pumps? I’ve overhauled the electrical/ignition and cooling systems on my A4, and plan to overhaul the fuel system next. I suspect my fuel pump may not be operating well. I have found out that past a certain point, you need a new carb. They seem to have a zinc coating of some kind that can start to dissolve and clog them back up after cleaning. If cleaning becomes a routine chore, it is probably time for another one assuming you have good filters.
