Does the USCG not still require paper charts on board, or have they gone full into the RNC world, with ATON’s? BTW: They are circulating for comments a potential plan to remove dozens of real navigation buoys, which would make some areas, like Wood’s Hole passage off Cape Cod a recreational boat graveyard IMO. This may end up being like the Naval Academy which dropped celestial navigation, but then brought it back as people realized the risk of EMP or other satellite warfare was a possibility which could leave ships lost on the ocean. Joe – thanks for that link. Will try to capture the older charts, which are much better than no charts. My computer skills are somewhat limited. This Open CPN install is on a new PC – my old PC had a blue screen of death crash from which I have not been able to recover. Have not posted much but do follow the list reading most posts. Am undoubtedly doing something wrong but am having difficulties downloading RNC charts in Open CPN, as in it will not. ENC charts seem to download but the information is sorely lacking in detail. Much prefer RNC charts. Joe, I found a posting you made on 5/11/24 on Cruisers Forum on preferring RNC’s – any help would be greatly appreciated > if you have time after reinstalling your engine… Anyone have a helpful hint or 3 on how this is to be done? I have tried multiple times, closely following the directions in the manual, but the screen examples they show are different than what appears on my screen. And following a step they say should work, does not. Am on a Windows PC. Lastly am in USCG Region 1 and they seem to omit Region 1 in their RNC list. Tried using the individual states, but no joy.
