Likely would have been fine. It needs to stick AND handle expansion and 
contraction.
You can definitely have things too stiff when engineering something.

BTW..  slightly off topic comment on previous off topic comment... I hope for a 
strong polar vortex this winter.  Contrary to what many people think, the polar 
vortex has been there for eons and we need it STRONG to keep the cold air in 
the arctic. A weak one, isn't good at all and we are sitting at a record last 
month. Here's hoping it gets better/stronger when we need it in Jan/Feb.

Not sure why TV weather puppets can't explain that better to the average Joe.
