Interesting story as a follow-up: I have the mother of all forward hatches on my 42 Custom. It’s huge. Shortly after buying the boat, I took the hatch to an auto windshield replacement shop and had them replace the lens (I provided the plexiglass). A year or two later, the temperature reached -20 degrees F for a short time over the winter (Erie, PA), which occurred before I had a winter cover for the boat. That spring, I went onboard after a couple warm days (still on the hard) and found moisture and mold in the forward berth. There were no signs of water entry, and the hatch looked fine. We subsequently figured out that the aluminum frame must have contracted in the extreme cold and popped the lens upward. The lens settled back into place when the temperature rose, but it was no longer sealed and allowed melting snow and rain to drip inside. None of the other, smaller hatches were affected. I had the lens on that hatch re-bedded and now take it home for winter storage.
