I don't think you folks are the only inland district. We have a group here
that actively manages the aids to navigation on the Miss. River. They do have
to contract out help from the Corps of Engineers on occasion. They used to
have a large patrol boat here called the Cheyenne; don't know if that's still
true.We tend to be brown water sailors, thanks to the Muddy Missouri coming in

Chuck, that's cool; the the locals are very proud of the fact that we have
the only inland Coast Guard station; I figure that makes us blue-water sailors!
Will keep you posted...!

Hey Richard,
My daughter serves with the Coast Guard there in Louisville so I have a
vested interest your situation there. We visited in June and learned about the
river height and how it changes so much during the year. One tip was seeing
the piling are higher than those seen in Maine.
I believe NOAA predicts the rise will happen Fri/Sat. Anyway, I hope your
boat fairs well and please share photos or webcams where a guy in New Jersey
can observe this amazing event.
Best of luck,

As usual, the leftovers from Ida pass through the Ohio valley today and we
will get a significant rise in the Ohio River levels...my dock will get about
12 feet of water over it...so we have to move to floating docks in a local
marina,,,

The Admiral and I spent a scary sleepless night listening to 50-70 mph
gusts working on the many big trees around the house. One branch took out a
couple panes of glass in the master bedroom and the top 15-20 feet of a large
oak tree in the front yard bent over but stayed in the tree. Lots of branches
in the yard this morning. Otherwise we’re okay.
Fortunately, the eye passed about 20 miles east of us so we got very little
rain.
We have no power, internet or cable. We just got cell phone service about
an hour ago.
The water in Touche’s marina was 4.5 feet over the dock. I have not heard
any news about Touche’ yet. The water is still high in the marina.
Our friends in New Orleans might not have been so fortunate. Hope to hear
from Ed Levert and Kevin Benoit but suspect it may be a while. A major
electrical transmission tower blew down and left all of Orleans Parish without
power. That will not be an easy fix.

BTW, either a storm jib or storm jib + triple reefed main works for me in
50. 50 foot waves though …………………..I think I would pass on that one! That is
almost mast height! YIKES! I have never been in waves higher than the boat is
long and look to continue that trend.

Hi All, I am on a drillship just south east of hurricane Ida. We rode
out the edge of the hurricane last night. We were about 80-100 miles from the
centre of the storm. It was a bumpy ride! Saw some 50’ waves and 50+ knots
wind. Lots of big breaking waves. I was wondering what sail configuration would
have worked out here :-) :-) If the internet is working better I will try
to join the meeting. The Hurricane is about to hit New Orleans and
Louisiana later this morning. Lets let Dennis and the southern gang know we are
thinking of them! I wish them all the best, it’s going to be a tough go!
Stay safe out there!!
