I had a very similar experience to Joe on Coquina when we bought a $60,000 boat recently. When I started asking questions about the boat, the selling broker actually told me that the commission he was getting from the sale wasn’t worth his time, and that he wasn’t working for me. He had zero interest in helping us get any history on the boat.
We did meet a broker that we liked a lot as we looked at other boats, and wish in retrospect we had enlisted him as our buyer’s rep. That would have at least spared us from deal with the selling broker, who was rather difficult to work with. And it wouldn’t have cost us any more than we ended up paying.
