Thank you for the response....I tension each wire split stay approx.  500 to 600 lbs. assuming the combined tension is not the actual sum of the two on the rod.  But if it is approx. 95% of the sum of the two, then generally that is what I want without backstay tension.  Some day I will get aloft and measure the rod tension after my initial setup.  Also my Loos RT 10 is designed for rod and not wire so not sure how accurate it is measuring tension on the wire.  A club mate has a wire gauge I can borrow for a more accurate reading and compare to my gauge.

tension on the rod is not exactly the sum of the tension of the two wires. It 
is less (sum x cos(angle)) because you pull at an angle. Since you mention that 
you cannot reach the rod, the angle is probably not that big, so you can expect 
better than 95% of that sum.
