Or you can use a reaching strut, which I prefer.

We set the pole at pulpit height with the downhaul cleated and it is 
essentially a sprit.  On a short leg in course racing we just use a 2’ tack 
line as pole setup takes a bit of time.   

  

With the pole that low the guy runs inside the lifelines
