Thanks, Alan. I’m familiar with all that. The issue appeared to be a combination of halyard tension and the size of the rope thimble (which sits above the shackle without much room).

Otherwise the halyard will wrap around the furler. If the angle is too narrow, you need to have a retainer mounted on the mast below the place where the halyard exists the mast. It’s a good way to go. FYI – when the halyard is not attached to the top swivel, you’ll need a way to attach it to the tow rail (or wherever you keep it when not used.
