Pete, My rudder is lying on the ground underneath our boat. I’ll be over there tomorrow working on her and will take some photos for you. Although it’s been so long since I dropped the rudder, I’m pretty sure that that nut is just for the emergency steering gear. I have the same play in our boat. I’m having the yard fix that this spring. Bushing/bearing work.
Also, for any of the listers who may be interested, I bought another boat. Doesn’t have a mast...
