I could never go back to not having A RAM mic in the cockpit, a handheld is a
PIA.

Having said that, that is exactly the situation I find myself in now, and
just the thought of running the cable up to the cabin has me procrastinating.

Like Alan sez, there is a very good chance the existing cable will work with
newer mic, or the current cable they sell may work with your older one. There
are several on Ebay.

Also, if you get another, S-H just came out with a new radio, GX2400, which I
just missed getting by a day.

Subject: Stus-List VHF Radio with Outside Extension Mic

Listers,

So it appears that the cable and Standard Horizon RAM mic for my VHF radio has
finally bit the dust and there are no replacement parts available. The main
base unit, inside the boat is still working beautifully though.

I’m currently torn with the premise of buying a new radio, a new external mic
and running a new cable, or just leave things as they are and just use a
portable handheld outside.

Should I decide to go with a new radio and external mic setup, does anyone have
recommendations?

All the best,

Edd
